The Walls Project Programs
The Walls Project has several programs. The Baton Roots Program focuses on urban agriculture, transforming underutilized spaces into thriving community gardens that provide fresh produce and educational opportunities. Reactivate mobilizes volunteers for large-scale community service events, such as MLK Fest and Juneteenth Celebrations, aimed at beautifying neighborhoods and fostering civic pride. The Futures Fund provides youth and adult training in Tech and digital literacy, bridging the technology gap and opening pathways to career opportunities. The OneRouge Coalitions address the root causes of poverty in East Baton Rouge Parish by promoting collaborative strategies and systemic change across multiple sectors. Public Art encompasses our vibrant mural and public art installations, which not only beautify the environment but also tell the stories of the communities we serve, fostering a sense of identity and belonging.
Job Summary:
The Walls Project is seeking a dynamic and experienced Baton Rouge Program Manager to manage multiple programs within The Walls Project solely in Baton Rouge, LA. This key management role requires a highly skilled individual with great communication, project management, organizational skills, documentation, planning, and personnel management skills. The Baton Rouge Program Manager will be responsible for planning and implementation of the Futures Fund Culture Club, Futures Fund JOLTcon, and Futures Fund Adult Workshops. As a manager, this role will be responsible for hiring and managing staff and contractors assigned to the programming. Additionally, this role will support in the compliance of Baton Roots Community Farm’s USDA compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Culture Club:
Plan and manage two semesters of afterschool activities two afternoons a week for teens at two high school campuses (48 sessions total). This includes the development of outreach materials, recruitment, execution, and post-semester closeouts.
Maintain close communication with school administration and staff to ensure campus access and alignment with school goals.
Implement engaging and appropriate workshops tailored to a teen audience.
Build positive relationships with the teen participants to ensure retention.
Confirm weekly attendance numbers.
Capture content for marketing and compliance reporting (data, photos, videos, testimonials).
Plan and implement a Positive Behavior Incentive event per school per semester.
Arrange for incentives (giveaways).
JOLTcon:
Plan and execute the annual teen JOLTcon conference held in June. This includes the development of outreach materials, recruitment, execution, and post-event closeouts.
Develop a unique and impactful approach to workforce development and creative exploration for teens.
Coordinate with the speakers, sponsors, and volunteers to deliver a memorable conference experience.
Coordinates with Event Planner all AV needs, logistics, hospitality, staffing, and any other event-related coordination.
Arrange for incentives (giveaways).
Confirms attendance numbers per event.
Adult Workshops:
Manage quarterly Adult Workshops held during ReActivate BR activities. This includes the development of outreach materials, recruitment, execution, and post-event closeouts.
Organize tech summits that provide free digital training to the community.
Ensure workshops are accessible and relevant to the community’s needs.
Perform outreach to partners through tabling and marketing to promote the event.
Work with the Senior Programs Director to connect sponsors to this opportunity.
Work with Nucleus to secure incentives (giveaways) for workshop participants.
Confirms attendance numbers per event.
Baton Roots and Agroforestry Activities
Coordinates with Baton Roots Staff including Associate Directors and Agroforestry Apprenticeship Manager to ensure proper record keeping for receipts, invoices, and timesheets related to USDA-funded agroforestry activities
Collaborates with Baton Roots staff to ensure effective communications between programs, including sharing of outreach, recruitment, and programming materials.
Duties:
Develop and manage program budgets, timelines, and resources.
Approves external workshop invoices, and works with the vendor to ensure proper onboarding for payment is initiated.
Manage the purchase and pick-up of supplies and hospitality for the programs.
Coordinate with schools, community partners, and stakeholders to ensure successful program delivery.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, contractors, and staff involved in program activities.
Recruit participants for each event and program. This includes developing outreach materials such as contact lists, communication scripts, email templates, flyers, posters, and social media promotional posts.
Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, making adjustments as necessary to achieve goals.
Maintains compliance during the project implementation, this may include communication with funders before and after the event.
Prepares all compliance and end-of-year reports and presentations for funders, board members, and community partners.
Promote programs through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and community events.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, youth development, or community engagement.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other relevant software.
Passion for community service and youth development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with teens and/or adult learners.
Knowledge of workforce development and digital literacy initiatives.
Familiarity with the Baton Rouge community and its educational landscape.
