Salary: $93,600-$114,400 (annual salary) with current benefits

The Walls Project is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking down societal barriers and fostering equitable communities through art, technology, and community engagement. Based in Baton Rouge, LA, we harness the transformative power of creativity to address critical social issues, from food insecurity and urban blight to educational disparities and economic inequality. By collaborating with local artists, businesses, and community members, The Walls Project creates vibrant public art installations, innovative urban agriculture programs, and dynamic educational initiatives that empower individuals and uplift communities. 


The Walls Project Programs

The Walls Project has several programs. The Baton Roots Program focuses on urban agriculture, transforming underutilized spaces into thriving community gardens that provide fresh produce and educational opportunities. Reactivate mobilizes volunteers for large-scale community service events, such as MLK Fest and Juneteenth Celebrations, aimed at beautifying neighborhoods and fostering civic pride. The Futures Fund provides youth and adult training in Tech and digital literacy, bridging the technology gap and opening pathways to career opportunities. The OneRouge Coalitions address the root causes of poverty in East Baton Rouge Parish by promoting collaborative strategies and systemic change across multiple sectors. Public Art encompasses our vibrant mural and public art installations, which not only beautify the environment but also tell the stories of the communities we serve, fostering a sense of identity and belonging.


Job Summary:

The Walls Project is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Programs Director to oversee the entirety of our nonprofit programming in Baton Rouge, LA. This key leadership role requires a highly skilled individual in project management, team dynamics, leadership, agile thinking, and problem-solving. The Senior Programs Director will be responsible for the strategic planning, development of work plans, implementation, and evaluation of all programs, staff, and KPIs, ensuring they align with The Walls Project’s mission and goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Oversight

    • Lead the development, execution, and evaluation of all programs in Baton Rouge, ensuring they meet the organization's standards and objectives. 

    • Set up metrics gathering with program staff, monitoring data, and assessing real-time progress. 

    • Lead weekly staff meetings where each program manager provides updates and collaboration opportunities.

    • Provide weekly check-ins with each Baton Rouge-based program manager to ensure programs and operations are progressing.

    • Update project management system on a daily basis (Asana and Salesforce)

    • Ensure all grant reporting is completed in a timely manner.

  • Strategic Planning

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior management to develop and implement strategic plans that align with the mission and goals of The Walls Project.

    • Assist in providing budget to actual analysis and activities for re-forecasting activities.

    • Ensure agreed-upon activities, contracts, and grants are tracked and in accordance with compliance restrictions.

  • Team Leadership 

    • Manage and mentor Louisiana-based program managers and staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. 

    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.

    • Determine operations gaps requiring additional personnel resources.

  • Project Management 

    • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and budget. 

    • Utilize project management tools and methodologies to track progress and address any issues that arise.

    • Prepare regular reports on program activities, outcomes, and impact.

    • Use data and feedback to continuously improve program effectiveness.

    • Must ensure that grant compliance is tracked, completed timely and efficiently. 

  • Community Engagement 

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and volunteers. 

    • Represent The Walls Project at community events and meetings. 

    • Arrange to ensure that upcoming events are sent to the local communities and media outlets through press releases or media campaigns. 

  • Resource Management: 

    • Assist the CFO in developing and managing program budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources. 

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities, including grants and sponsorships.

  • Agile Thinking: Adapt and respond to changing circumstances, demonstrating flexibility and innovation in program design and execution.

  • Problem Solving: Address challenges proactively, developing and implementing solutions to ensure program success.


Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of successful project management, including planning, execution, and evaluation.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software, such as Asana and Salesforce.

  • Lives in Baton Rouge, LA and is willing to commute daily to the office.  

  • Knowledge of the Baton Rouge community and its needs is highly desirable. 


Desired but not required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
