For Baton Roots, every day is Earth Day—and that’s especially true for our Agroforestry Apprenticeship crew. These dedicated apprentices have been putting in the work, partnering with Baton Rouge Green and the East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority (EBRPHA) to help transform communities through sustainable tree planting efforts across the city.

Together, we’ve already planted over 200 trees at EBRPHA community sites and nearby neighborhoods in Baton Rouge. The team visited Scotland Villa, planting 22 fruit and canopy trees, creating shade, food, and beauty for years to come. These plantings don’t just enhance the landscape—they support climate resilience, food access, and community well-being.
This is just one part of the hands-on learning and community impact that defines the Baton Roots Agroforestry Apprenticeship program. The apprenticeship equips participants with real-world skills in urban farming, sustainability, and environmental stewardship—all while serving neighborhoods in need.
Want to see more? Head over to our Baton Roots Instagram for photos, updates, and opportunities to get involved. You’ll find highlights from our tree plantings and info on upcoming events like Sow Good Saturday, our monthly community gathering filled with gardening, education, and fun.
We’re growing more than just trees—we’re growing leaders and healthier communities, one root at a time.
